Introduction To: Functional Testing & Functional Assessments

Use of Functional Testing in Post-Offers (P-O), Fit for Duty Exams, Physical Capacity Evaluations (PCE), Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE)and Work Hardening and/or Work Conditioning programs.

Functional Testing

  • Learn how to properly, efficiently and safely test pain sensitivity, range of motion (ROM) and muscle strength
  • Learn the differences between manual and computerized testing methods
  • Learn American Medical Association (AMA) methodology and protocols for range of motion (ROM) assessment
  • Learn and understand muscle grading scales
  • Learn the difference between isokinetic, isotonic and isometric muscle testing
  • Learn how to interpret muscle testing force curves
  • Learn how muscle testing is used for neurological (myotome) and mechanical (injury) testing

FCE, PCE, P-O, Fit for Duty, Work Hardening

  • Learn about job descriptions and how they relate to the critical demands of the job
  • Learn how to perform full job analyses
  • Learn the differences between essential functions and critical demands
  • Learn the importance of and evaluation methods for work activites and work postures
  • Learn the varied uses of functional capacity evaluations and how the FCE is different from other types of evaluations
  • Learn the role of the technician, clinician and evaluator
  • Learn ethical billing and proper coding techniques

Instructor

FredproFred N. Lerner, DC, PhD, FACO is a chiropractic orthopedist in Beverly Hills, California. He also maintains staff privileges with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and was the first Doctor of Chiropractic on staff there. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Lerner (DC) served as Director of Physical Therapy at Spalding Orthopedic Rehabilitative Therapy in Beverly Hills. He works in a multi-disciplinary setting with spine surgeons, physiatrists and other specialists.

Dr. Lerner (DC) is a Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists and the American Academy of Pain Management. He is also a fellow of the Academy of Forensic and Industrial Chiropractic Consultants and the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists.

Dr. Lerner (DC) has been in private practice since 1980. He has a comprehensive background performing Independent Medical Examinations / Functional Capacity Evaluations and providing peer reviews for insurer / medical / legal affiliations. His company, Lerner Education, is a Provider for the California Division of Worker’s Compensation Medical Unit for Qualified Medical Evaluator education programs.

Dr. Lerner (DC) received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto and his Doctorate in Chiropractic from the Southern California University of Health Sciences - Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. He also earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Electromedical Sciences from City University Los Angeles School of Electromedical Sciences.

Cancellations will incur a $30 service charge regardless of when cancellation is submitted. If cancellation is requested two weeks prior to the
seminar, a refund may be requested. Cancellation requests received within two weeks of a seminar are eligible for a credit on your JTECH
account. Cancellations will not be accepted after the seminar has started. Registration fees do not include travel or lodging expenses. JTECH is
not responsible for fees charged by airlines, hotels or other parties due to seminar cancellation or rescheduling.
